Jordan Olischefski

Registered Provisional Psychologist

My name is Jordan Olischefski, Registered Provisional Psychologist, and I look forward to collaborating with you! Coming prepared with well over a decade in the mental health field, I am experienced in facilitating others’ abilities to expand their adaptive coping skill sets, examine emotional and relational patterns, resolve problems and invest in themselves via the therapy process.

Should we meet, we’ll begin by assessing whatever conditions bring you to seek out a therapist. We’ll explore how I can support you to realize your potential, whether it be through optimizing mental health, strengthening personal relationships, or in clarifying and extending your day-to-day sense of self - to help you feel fulfilled and connected to your world. I’m a professional who believes in your innate capacity to grow, to actualize change, and to strive toward greater well-being across all dimensions of life. More than anything, I consider it a privilege to be in a position to help!

A little formal background about me... I have been delivering mental health services for 15+ years across a variety of settings, working with youth and adults in equal measure. I spent a decade working for Alberta Health Services, most recently providing community addiction treatment for adults, and thus I have a wealth of specialized experience (10+ years) conducting both individual and group therapy for addictions. Clinical issues that I am skilled in addressing include (but are not limited to) substance or process addictions (e.g. gambling), depression and/or emotional concerns, anxiety, stress, grief, loss, and relationship difficulties. I have also facilitated numerous counselling groups specifically for men.

I graduated from McGill University with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychotherapy in 2015, having completed my formal internship at the McGill Counselling Service. Previously to that, I attended MacEwan University in Edmonton where I graduated the B.A. Psychology Honours program with distinction in 2008. I’m Alberta born and raised, while being ever-appreciative of the rich diversity that I have encountered throughout my career.

My approach to therapy is integrative, as it’s informed by complementary perspectives and a belief in your uniqueness, while commonly attending to psychological, biological and social domains of life. I utilize techniques and interventions honed through years of experience - Motivational Enhancement, Relapse Prevention, Cognitive-Behavioural and Dialectical-Behavioural therapy modes, to name a few. I am particularly skilled in the practical application of mindfulness. I am also experienced in identifying and sensitively addressing trauma-related issues, as well as structural or environmental factors in individuals’ lives that might present barriers to positive change.

Personally-speaking, I’m compassionate by nature, and you can trust that my approach will be open, curious, and always non-judgmental. I am client-centered and humanistic, making efforts to be flexible and always inviting of your feedback! Please do get in touch - I look forward to speaking with you and working together to achieve your goals.
